“Julia has benefited from the program in many ways. First of all the program has enhanced her interest in art as evidenced by her typed 2011 New Year’s Resolution, where she explicitly begins by saying ” I would like to learn more about using texture in painting.” She also enjoys being part of the Art Club and has insisted that I not schedule any Dr.’s appointments on the dates that it meets. Julia is highly imaginative and art allows her to try a different form of expressing her ideas, which can be a challenge for her. She is highly interested in creative outlets. Additionally, she has fine motor skill issues and art allows her to strengthen these skills. It also offers opportunities on the “sensory integration” front, too, for lack of a better phrase…when she is coming in contact with different types of materials and experiencing how they feel. Finally, Julia seems to benefit socially from being in a diverse group that is outside her regular grade peer group, where she can meet new people of different ages in a different context.”

“It’s been a while since the summer, but I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for the insightful, interesting and enjoyable experience that I had this summer interning at Create Arts Center summer camp. I learned a lot about different creative art projects, art therapy, and about working with kids. I look forward to keeping in touch with you during my future vacations.”

“She loved it. She’s talked about making many friends. She likes the art projects and definitely wants to come back. The [CREATE camp] environment is calming and has a more nurturing staff.”

“Dear CREATE Arts Staff and especially Tamar Hendel, An inquiry from a neighbor reminded me that I need to tell you how happy we were that Sophia has found the CREATE Arts Summer Camp and programs. I wasn’t sure an “art” camp was for us, having seen the kind of crafts most summer camps provide as “art” but CREATE Arts was so much more than “crafts” we were more than pleased. Every day was a new art adventure for Sophia, and every day she came home challenged with a new idea or way of expressing herself. When Sophia is asked what she enjoyed most she will tell you it was making friends with the kids and staff, practicing with her (new found) artistic talents, and playing games outside at lunch. When I’m asked what I enjoyed most I will tell you it was watching my girl become more confident, over-come much of her shyness in a new environment, see her look forward to “learning” and gaining a better sense of her tastes and talents. CREATE Arts seems to have given her a huge confidence boost.”
