Dzhoy Zuckerman, 15
School Without Walls College of Choice: NYU Art School or University of Maryland
Dzhoy has been attending CREATE Arts Center for over 8 years. He started as a camper and graduated to a Counselor in Training (CIT) before returning as a volunteer.
“I have learned different art techniques, such as paper maché, plaster of Paris, mixed media, sculpture, cartooning, and drawing. More importantly, I have learned, during my ‘helper years’ (as a CIT), how to take care of kids with different preferences, abilities and personalities. For example, Ms. Heena taught me how to talk to children in a way that I don’t say ‘no’ as much. So instead of saying ‘don’t run’, I say ‘please walk’. It works!” ~ Dzhoy.
CREATE has helped Dzhoy realize his passion for art. At school, he has the opportunity to choose his own classes and most of his electives are art-related. In the future, Dzhoy looks forward to becoming a summer camp art teacher. Keep up the good work Dzhoy!
